March 2023 Business Meeting

GK Report

  • Assisted with 4th Degree Honor Guard for Fr. Thomas Clements funeral. Bishop Jugis presided over the funeral with about 12 additional priests and deacons. Fr. Clements was pastor of Sacred Heart for 17 years during his lifetime. Fr. Clements died as a member of our council with over 40 KofC years.
  • Membership dues are entering second billing. Please make provisions for payment.

Treasurer Report – Updated membership with checking account balance.


Membership Report – 

The council currently has 90 Active Members.  State forwarded information about a new e-member in the area. His name is Paul Noseworthy. Information forwarded to Membership Director for follow-up.

Other Reports

Our programs as Knights of Columbus should help provide encouragement, engagement and evangelization to our parish and the community. We pray that Our Lord will accomplish His will and lead us to holiness, helping us work towards being better men and better disciples.


Family Director – Jay Basinger

  • Family of the Month – 
  • Food for Families – Support Sister Mary Roberts Ministry. Knights are needed to bag up items and help load cars. We need to support Saturday morning from about 9-12. The date can vary month to month. Next one is April 22nd. (Same date as walk for Life).
  • St. Patricks Day - Knights worked with Church and Catholic Daughters to put on a St. Patrick's Dinner. The event was attended by about 180 parishioners. The night included dinner, live band, and Irish dancers. Knights assisted in food prep, serving, drinks and cleanup. Event received very positive reviews. Knights received a $200 donation.
  • Joint Christmas Party – Catholic Daughters proposed having a join Christmas Party with Knights. KofC membership was receptive.

Faith Director – John Baughman

  • Into the Breach – a program to deepen men’s spirituality and formation to combat the crisis of religious faith in our world. We will cover a different topic each month. Supreme has a video for each topic. The council will have booklets for reflection and discussion. The discussion will be during the social. Video and small group discussion at social to follow.  No Breach in April due to Holy Thursday mass. The next one is May 4th at 6:30 on Prayer.
  • Holy Hour and Adoration – Knights are signed up for Holy Hour and Adoration on the First Saturday of every month from 7 am to 8 am (immediately before mass). Next one is on May 6th.
  • Refund Support Vocational Program (RSVP) – Refund obtained and deposited in account.
  • Fish Fry Lenten Dinners are 2/24, 3/24 and 3/31.  On Feb 24th 156 dinners purchased and 220 on 3/24. On 3/24 $3899 Income from dinner and 50/50. Current expenses at $2331.  Asking Daughters for additional desserts.
  • Partners in Hope - Reception, Dinner, and Program. Sacred Heart will be filling two tables. Partners in hope is a benefit event for The Catholic Charities (Piedmont Triad Region) Diocese of Charlotte. March 30 @ 5:30 pm – 9:00 pm. The cocktail reception starts at 5:30 PM. Dinner and Program start at 6:30 PM. Benton Convention Center, 301 W 5th St., Winston-Salem, NC 27101. Thank you to Tom Voignier for coordinating.
  • Lenten Breakfast – Knights hosted 3/27 after 7 am mass. Duane K coordinated.

Community Director – Duane Krzysik

  • Assist Family Director with Food for Families – Support Sister Mary Roberts Ministry.

Life Director – Len Kobylus

  • ASAP check presented to Life Choices Rowan.
  • LAMB -Help those Least Among My Brethren  LAMB. Current donations are over $2100. At the end of the year, we will get checks to support Arc of Rowan County and Special Olympics. Talked with Maria Lewis, Sales Team Manager at Belk about getting added to Belk Charity for LAMB. Next Charity Sale is May 5th – 7th. Tickets will be available to pick up in the beginning of April. NEED TO SUBMIT END OF YEAR PAPERWORK AND REQUEST DONATION CHECKS. 
  • Helped Life Choices Rowan by installing curtain rods on Mar 3rd. They are seeking help to assemble an office chair.
  • Walk for Life - April 22 from 9 to 11:30. Life Choices will need our support in person and financially. Sign up sheet for help with event. Please donate online or send a check to me.
  • Special Olympics- Get our council plugged into the activities and needs of Special Olympics

New Business

  • Election of Officers – Officer Slate started. Bill Riippi offered nomination for  DGK, Logan Afton offered nomination for Treasurer. April to continue with nominations. Final elections at May Business Meeting.
  • Youth Support of Jamica Mission Trip. Discussed doing fundraiser. 
  • Elected Delegates  Primary Greg Fischer and Nick Cianciosi. Alternate – Chris Castille
  • State Convention April 28-30 in Winston Salem. Reservations due by 4/14. Last day to book hotel 3/30 for group rate $139/night.
  • 100 Club winners for Mar Joe Robinson, Rodney Power & Alexa Bartel
  • Sign up Walk for Life & Donations
