November 2024 Meeting Minutes

Call to Order

Chaplain’s Message- Father Dimock was called to an emergency at the hospital.


GK Report

  • Minutes from the last meeting in October are approved.
  • Thank you to all the Knights that came out to Sister Mary Roberts on Saturday November 16th where we had our Coats for Kids Program, we had a great showing and appreciate all the support.
  • Thank you for all the Knights that made trays of Ziti for the Rowan Helping ministry on Friday November 15th, and also to the Knights that assisted with Breakfast on Saturday November 16th.
  • Peg Fisher sent an email about the 15th Anniversary of the dedication of Sacred Heart on Lumen Christi Lane. At the 6PM Vigil on December 18th, a reception will follow in Brincefield Hall and Boyd Gym.
  • December meeting falls on Christmas Eve.  The Council has Voted to Skip December meeting for next month.
  • It has been discovered that “Baby Boxes” for saving newborn babies are not allowed in the State of North Carolina. GK Bill Riipi will forward information to each of us that will be steps toward making this happen here in our State.

Financial Report (Treasurer) – Jim Bertrand

Checking Acct Balance $ 31,283.34

Fundraising Committee –

  • Outstanding Dues Balances several members still need to take care of dues. Please take care of ASAP. If you are experiencing financial difficulties, please talk to the GK. He can authorize waiving dues. Grand Knight, Deputy Grand Knight and Chancellor to Work on list.

 

Membership Report – Len Kobylus

  • The council currently has 103 Active Members.  Sean Flemming is a new member and needs an Exemplification. No update on Sean.

Other Reports

Our programs as Knights of Columbus should help provide encouragement, engagement and evangelization to our parish and the community. We pray that Our Lord will accomplish His will and lead us to holiness, helping us work towards being better men and better disciples.


Program Director – Darrell Kimball

 

Family Director – Chris Castille

  • Family of the Month – Joe and Darlene Shaffer
  • Knight of the Month –  Jim Bertrand
  • Food for Families – Support Sister Mary Roberts Ministry. Knights are needed to bag up items and help load cars. We need to support Friday 6-8 pm and Saturday morning from about 8:30-12. The last one was 11/15 & 11/16. Many Knights came out over 2 days to make this a success. The next SMRM is 12/20 & 12/21.
    • GK will not be in attendance for this one, will be in El Paso visiting family.


Faith Director – Duane Krzysik

  • Holy Hour and Adoration – Knights are signed up for Holy Hour and Adoration on the First Saturday of every month from 7 am to 8 am (immediately before mass). Next one is on Dec 7th.
  • There is a drastic need to improve attendance at Men’s Night. More announcements everywhere are needed. Father Dimock has offered to stay in town on Thursday nights. He requested we send an email to him and Father John to remind them of the event. GK Bill Riipi will take care of that.
  • Refreshments will be served at Men’s night. Next Men’s night is Thursday December 5th in either the Art or Math Room at 6:30pm

Community Director – Jim Bertrand

  • Coats for Kids was a Success, the Council bought two boxes of Coats 1 box for Girls and 1 box for Boys.  Next year we will order early to take advantage of BOGO.

Life Director: Len Kobylus

  • Need more volunteers (guinea pigs) for Polar Plunge this spring. March 1st
  • Start fund raising this January
  • Donated another $500.00 to Life Choices and received a very nice letter of appreciation.
  • Tony and Len attended human trafficking event at the Church. There is a local organization working on this problem that needs help. Rowan Project Light .

 

4th Degree Report

  • Anyone not receiving Fourth degree information that should, please see Darrell ASAP
  • Next exemplification will be in Charlotte in March
  • Needs 4th Degree volunteers for Color Guard. Please contact Darrell ASAP!

         100 Club Winners for November and  December.

Insurance Agent Report – Logan Afton – discussed “Charities” and how they affect taxes. See Logan for more information about what is available through the Knights of Columbus.


DD Report – wished all Happy Thanksgiving

 

Good of Order –  Greg Miller, Bishop Jugis, Duane Krzysik, Pat Carson, Tamra Clemmons, Esther Youngblood, Logan Afton’s Grandmother, Bill Washington, Leona Desch, Simon Desch, , Chuck Yelle, Anna Robinson , Sue Tuluri, and Father John’s sister Katie.
